Frequently Asked Questions
Some helpful answers to commonly asked questions about website design and development.
Q: How much does a website cost?
A: As little as $100: as much as $100,000
Very basic websites can be built for as little as $100 (or even FREE if you do it yourself!). Of course the costs involved in building a website escalate quickly when custom design/artwork and custom features and functionality are required.
Q: How long does it take to build a website?
A: A basic business or blog website can be built in 2-3 days, though given the time it takes to get feedback from our clients, collect content, and accommodate adjustments and bugs a 2-4 week development period is more typical for entry-level websites.
Though basic websites can be built in a matter of hours, more advanced projects can take several months or more to plan, design, develop, and fine-tune. A large factor in keeping any development schedule on track is whether the customer has their CONTENT ready - images, write-ups, copy - waiting for clients to collect and prepare these necessary assets can delay a project.
Q: Where are you located?
A: We are a VIRTUAL Company with Teams in India, Ukraine, and America
While our business was started in San Francisco and our mailing address on Market Street remains, we have setup our company to allow us to do our jobs remotely while we focus on recruiting and training our development teams. Matt Hammond lives in Kiev, Ukraine - and Matt Lawson lives in Kagawa, Japan.
Who will be working on my website?
Your project will be completed by a small team of web design and development specialists including a dedicated American project manager - usually Matt Hammond - who will work directly with you to define, document, and manage the development of your project from start to finish.
MediaLabPro has established two small development offices in Jaipur and Pune, India - where our hand-selected and personally trained developers work. This allows us to deliver an incredible value to our customers, while maintaining your point of contact directly to your project manager to avoid any communication issues.
How does MLP track projects and communicate with clients?
We communicate and are regularly available by phone, email, Skype, chat, and through our online project management system at Tidokan.com.
We built our custom project tracking system from the ground-up to provide our clients with a convenient way to track projects, pay for work, and provide feedback for any bugs found in the system.
When are project managers available for chat and phone calls?
MLP project managers are typically available for live chat and phone support Monday through Friday from 6am to 6pm EST . Limited weekend (Saturday and Sunday) support is available by email or by advance booking (advanced support packages are available if needed).
We are also available by appointment if these times do not work for you.
What are MediaLabPro's payment terms?
We use PeaceofCode.com for tracking work and matching payments to specific milestones, or 'phases' of work. A typical small website project will be broken down into 4-5 development phases, and larger projects can be as much as 10 or more phases.
At the start of each phase, clients send payment for amount defined for that phase, and this money is held by PeaceofCode until the work is reviewed and marked as complete by the Project Manager and the customer.
What payment methods does MLP accept?
MediaLabPro accepts credit card, Paypal, and direct deposit (cash) payments
We do not accept checks - wire transfers may be permitted for larger payments and must pay for any related transaction or wire transfer fees.
Great! So how do we get started?
For smaller fixes and site enhancements, you can also issue a ticket for work request directly at PeaceofCode.com
